Run Norwich event organisers the Norwich City Community Sports Foundation have outlined the entry process for the 2022 edition of the race – with the first round of entries set to open next Thursday.
The popular 10k running event, voted the Best in the UK at the Running Awards, will return to the city centre on Sunday 17th July, following a two-year absence owing to the pandemic.
A priority entry window, reserved for those runners who generously donated their entry fee back to support the Charity when the race was first cancelled in 2020, will open on Thursday 3rd February. General entry will then open at 9am on Thursday 10th February.
Capacity for the race, this year backed by principal sponsor Aviva, is set at 8,500 runners.
The race route will pass all the familiar landmarks in the city, including the Castle, Norwich Cathedral and Carrow Road. A change to the start location (originally announced for the 2020 race) means runners will begin from outside the Norwich Theatre Royal, with a new section of route that takes in Aviva’s historic Surrey House building.
Priority entry
Entry for the race will open with a priority window on Thursday 3rd February (add calendar reminder) reserved for runners who donated their Run Norwich 2020 entry fee back when the race was first cancelled, following a plea from organising charity, the Community Sports Foundation.
The generosity of these runners allowed the charity to meet the costs of the race that had already been incurred, preserving the future of the event, as well as continuing to run a number of its initiatives and programmes, including the free mental wellbeing weekly running group, Run For Me.
In addition to the priority window to claim their spot in the 2022 race, runners who waived their fee will save £5 off their 2022 entry fee and enjoy a number of additional benefits across the year, as the charity seeks to thank them for their kind support during a difficult time.
General entry
Following a one week priority window, general for the remaining available places will open on Thursday 10th February at 9am (add calendar reminder).
Competition for the general entry places is expected to be fierce, as all general entry places sold out in just four hours in 2020.
Supporting charities
Runners will also have the option to run for the Norwich City Community Sports Foundation, and an additional twelve partner charities.
These include Home-Start Norfolk, YMCA Norfolk, Finnbar’s Force, Mancroft Advice Project, Fresh Start New Beginnings, The Hamlet charity, The Feed, Leeway, Priscilla Bacon Hospice, SENsational Families, Cruse Bereavement Support and Norfolk and Norwich Hospitals Charity.
Official charity places are free, under the proviso the runner reaches a fundraising target.
