Important information

Following advice from Norwich City Council, and with runner, spectator, and volunteer safety our first priority, we are making a number of changes to our original event plans because of current weather conditions and forecasts for Sunday morning.

There is no Met Office weather warning in place for Sunday as there is today, but gusts of up to 35mph are forecasted for the event.

While the Community Sports Foundation still anticipates a highly successful and enjoyable event, we will be making the following changes:

  Race route

• Our Start & Finish inflatable gantries will not be erected
• Barriers and key race signage will be secured with additional sandbags and ties
• Non-essential branding, inflatables or flags that cannot be fixed to permanent structures or street furniture, will not be used.

Toilets

• A number of our toilet blocks in Chapelfield Gardens will be repositioned to more sheltered areas outside The Forum and on Bethel Street (next to the Yellow & Pink pens)

Race Village at Chapelfield Gardens

As we will not be erecting temporary infrastructure (e.g. gazebos and marquees), our Race Village is the area most affected by the safety measures.

A number of areas originally planned for the Race Village have been relocated to inside The Forum:

These include:

• Merchandise stand
• Information stand
• Recover Physio area
• Partner stands

The Race Village will still house baggage trailers, food vendor trucks and the Runner Recharge Zone (where you can collection additional freebies include beer, crisps and bananas).

Regrettably, we won’t be able to offer the Foundation charity runner VIP area as this was planned to be inside a marquee. The charity will look to arrange a future reward/event for their runners.

It is also important that running clubs, charities and other groups refrain from bringing gazebos or temporary structures to the Race Village – you will not be allowed to set these up.

Trophy presentations location

The trophy presentations, originally scheduled to take place in the Race Village, will now take place in front of the City Hall steps at 11.00am.

Other measures 

• We’ll be running extra sweeps on the roads in the morning to clear up any overnight debris.
• Additional safety briefings will take place with our key staff and volunteers.

Understanding the risks

Please be vigilant when traveling to and from the event and during the run itself, and be flexible with your original race day plans where appropriate (e.g. ditching that large fancy-dress costume).
