Norwich & Central Norfolk Mind

Norwich & Central Norfolk Mind (NCNM) are the local mental health charity for the Norwich and central Norfolk area.  We were established in 1966 by a group of people who wanted to greatly improve mental health care in Norfolk, by challenging the traditional large institutional model that was dominant at the time.

We are affiliated to National Mind and as such form part of a national federation of independent organisations called Local Mind Associations of which there are 140 in the UK.  Therefore, we are a stand-alone charity that relies on the generosity and good will of people in our community to continue the much needed great work we do.  More information about our services and the support we can offer can be found here.

Our primary purpose is to make effective support available to people with, and at risk of mental ill health and in doing so improve individual and community resilience to mental health issues.  Here at NCNM we have a very clear vision about recovery and how by engaging with local organisations, our clients and continually being innovative and responsive we can provide the help and support that is so needed in our communities.

Mental health affects us all and the chances are you have dealt with a mental health issue yourself, supported someone who has or just know of someone who is suffering.  Stigma and discrimination around mental health issues plays a big part for someone experiencing problems and can cause isolation and much distress.

Here are a few examples of how the money raised could help;

£20 – could pay for a counselling session for someone who is unable to afford it

£40 – could pay for a holistic complementary session for someone suffering with a mental health issue

£150 – would pay for someone to be trained as a Mental Health First Aider (MHFA) to support people in our community

£500 – a therapeutic programme for our residential unit in Norwich

£1000 +  could help us deliver a new project for a short period of time

Unlike a physical illness or injury, mental health can be very difficult for people to talk about and access the appropriate help and support, but with your help we can change this . . .

We kindly invite you to Run Norwich for us and help us make sure that no one has to face a mental health problem alone.

‘To be chosen as one of the charities to benefit from Run Norwich is a fantastic opportunity for us as a local organisation.  The race is such a positive high profile event that this will help enormously with raising awareness of the needs of people who have mental health problems in our community, and will contribute to our campaign to reduce the stigma and discrimination felt by people who suffer, their families and local communities.’
